15 Ways to Celebrate Just Because

Typically, when we think about celebrating a special occasion, we think about going over the top: an expensive piece of jewelry, a fancy dinner at a swanky restaurant, a big party with tons of guests and food. However, not every occasion needs so much fanfare.

Does that mean those smaller, yet still noteworthy occasions should go without being recognized or celebrated? Definitely not!

We would be remiss if we failed to celebrate Johnny’s first no-hitter, Susie's first missing tooth, or your husband's return after a long business trip. And what about those other times when we want to celebrate. . . just because?

Here are some ideas for celebrating those smaller moments in life. Just because! And don't forget to send your loved one an online card or invitation, just to show how much you care.

Create an ice cream sundae bar where everyone gets to select their own ice cream flavor, toppings, and special serving bowl or dish. It’s less expensive than going out for ice cream and more personal.

Snuggle up on the couch with a glass of wine and a roaring fire alongside your special someone. To make it extra special, share the glass of wine.

Get fancy in the dining room. Light some silver candelabras and have an elegant dinner right in the comfort of home. So you're not a chef? Order in from a quality restaurant and plate it on your good china.  It’s a Five-star restaurant without a reservation!

Leave a trail of Post-It Notes with directions leading your mate through a personalized "treasure hunt". At the end of the trail, have a special treat planned, such as an indoor picnic or a special dinner waiting on the table.

Who needs a dance club to get happy? Put your favorite tunes on the CD player, clear a dance floor, grab your favorite partner and get moving!

Send a Sweet Greetings edible message today with our creative and delicious designs. For just $5, you can really show someone just how much you are thinking about them for no real occasion at all!

Create a video montage. With digital media, it's easier than ever to set digital pictures to a video slideshow. How excited would your little slugger be to watch his own video show which captures images of his home run or game-saving catch?

Who doesn't love poetry? Create a personalized poem about the person you're celebrating (It doesn't have to just be romantic. Humor works well, too!). For added fun, you can read it aloud in front of friends or family members.

Let nature set the back drop. Take your special someone (or someones) outside. Set up some comfy seating and tasty nibbles, and prepare to watch the sunset together.

Create a personalized basket or box for your celebrant by filling it with items he or she loves. For kids: trading cards, small toys, favorite snacks, or hobby materials. For adults: gift cards, favorite alcoholic beverages, or personalized coupons for future use such as “1 free foot massage.”

Plant a special tree or shrub in honor of the special person or to commemorate their special event or achievement.

Create a new tradition. For example, why not, on Opening Day of Little League, celebrate by having a picnic lunch? If you do this every year, it becomes all the more special and anticipated.

Spend some extra quality or alone time with one another. Sometimes an unexpected show of interest and TLC can be the most wonderful way of celebrating your love and pride in someone.

Create a scrapbook, filling it with pictures and other memorabilia of your someone special.

Let them call the shots! Allow your special person to decide how to spend the day. More than likely, they'll chose to spend it with you, but allow the freedom of choice.

Make a list of all the things you enjoy about the person.  To make it extra special, read it aloud while doing number three above.

Make your own playing cards with special messages intended for that certain someone. Think: "Move ahead three spaces and give Emily a hug," or "Take and extra turn because you are special today."

Leave special celebratory notes to be found in unexpected places: a coat pocket, a sun visor, or even taped to the milk carton in the fridge.

Treat them to their favorite dish. Come home with all the ingredients for their favorite meal or treat and make something yummy to fill their belly. (And don’t forget to take care of clean up!)

Burn a CD of all their favorite songs and leave it in the CD player of their car. Your special someone will be rocking all the way to the next special occasion.
