2012 Election Day Party Ideas

Election Day 2012 is November 6th this year and while we've been enjoying all the debates, we're really gearing up to watch the election unfold live at home with some friends and fun.  We may all be on different sides of the political gamut, but we're uniting our Democrat and Republican friends over a few Election Day cocktails, lots of red and blue foods, and, of course, some games!

Election Day Party Cocktails

Throwing an Election Day party at home isn't, and shouldn't be, a lot of work. First, focus on your cocktails - you'll need a red one and a blue one, but apart from that guideline, the options are endless.

Need some inspiration? For the blues, and the democrats at your Election bash, try mixing up a chic blue lemon martini that's full of both sweet and tart flavors, or a muddled blueberry gin in a mason jar complete with matching straw that's a bit deeper and warmer in taste.

Since the election is smack dab in the middle of a cooler fall, try serving a red hot cider in honor of the republicans at your party. If you're lucky enough to be down south or on the West coast, a strawberry wine cooler is a good option, too!

If you prefer not to encourage the bipartisan line, you can of course go with a red, white and blue punch!

Election Day Finger Foods

They may not be on the same side all the time, but both 2012 presidential candidates agree on one thing - to survive the intense campaign trail you need a whole lot of delicious food!

While President Obama prefers a slice of pizza or a warm bowl of chili, Governor Romney heads straight for anything with peanut butter in it. Though the President has a family recipe he adores, we bet he'd still have a hard time passing on our favorite chili recipes - as would your election day party guests!

Chili is great for a crowd since it's simple to prep ahead of time and also feeds a large group without too much work. Make it the main dish at your party and guests will appreciate both the flavor and inspiration behind the hearty entree. We like serving our chili in large mugs at parties where mingling mixes with a meal.

For dessert, turn to Governor Romney's favorite sweets for inspiration. Chocolate and peanut butter are some of his top treats and we've got a cupcake recipe that wraps the two into one delicious bite. Chocolate peanut butter cupcakes (with a graham cracker crust, of course) are a tried and true favorite around here!

As the time draws near and the last ballots are counted, break out some red and blue popcorn for guests to munch on. It's the perfect snack to enjoy while you wait with anticipation to see who will become our 45th president!

Election Day Entertainment

While we're sure the broadcasts will inspire great debate and discussion among your election party guests, make sure you've also got other entertainment at the ready in case things become more heated than you expect.

We put together this snarky election day fortune teller that's sure to add a hefty dose of fun to the party. Just click the photo below, and print as many political fortune tellers as you'd like!

Once you've printed, check out our quick video tutorial for a how-to on how to fold.

Every election is an important one and a great way to get involved, get excited and get talking about the issues is to gather your most important people together and turn it into a celebration!
