5 Tips for Making the Perfect Iced Coffee

Save yourself time, money, and caffeine-withdrawal headaches by making your own iced coffee. We have five tips to preparing the perfect cup!

Coffee is a lifesaver for busy and sleep-deprived people everywhere. And iced coffee?! Well, that's got to be hands-down one of the best parts of summer. If you're like me and trying to be frugal with your extra income, you've realized that twice-daily trips to Starbucks for Grande iced lattes can really add up.That's why I have made a concerted effort to make my iced coffee at home. When you know you’re saving money, your Faux-Frap Vanilla blend may even taste better than the barista down the street.

Here are some tips for the perfect summertime iced coffee:

Make ‘Coffee Ice’: When you're cooling down a homemade cup of iced coffee from scratch, these special iced cubes won't dilute your beverage when they melt. If you make a big pot of hot coffee in the morning like in my house, then usually there is a little left over. Let the coffee cool, and then pour it into clean ice cube trays and freeze. Within 4 hours you have (genius) coffee ice!

Sweeten your coffee before you cool it down: This trick will save you lots of time furiously stirring sugar granules at the bottom of your cup. By sweetening while it's still hot, your sugar or sweetener will melt immediately!

Go green with your cups: If you do partake in store-bought iced coffee when you are out and about; save the plastic cup, lid, and straw. Wash it out once you're home and you'll have the perfect container for the next time you make iced coffee to go.Another great option is to invest in reusable mason jar lids that are perfectly crafted with a straw hole. We found a wonderful option on Etsy.  These also make a great gift for any iced-coffee aficionados in your life!

Kick things up a notch: Do you love the taste of a vanilla or hazelnut coffee? Just use about one drop of vanilla extract or almond extract when sweetening your coffee. Sweeten as your normally would. This trick saves calories, too!

Make a big batch: Make a big pot on Sunday night, sweeten if you wish, and then let it cool before pouring into a pitcher and storing in the fridge. This way you'll be much more likely to grab it and go before dashing out the door!
