A Cute Blue Ring Bearer Wedding Bear Idea

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. A little mussed up yet sentimental, a floppy blue teddy bear seemed like just the right thing for the little ring bearer to carry down the aisle at this wedding.

Did you know that the history of the ring bearer can actually be traced all the way back to Ancient Egypt?! It is believed that this tradition comes from the Egyptian custom of carrying treasured jewels on decorative pillows during weddings.

Later civilizations and cultures adapted their own versions of this tradition, including a European custom in which the ring bearer skipped the traditional pillow and presented the rings on the tip of a sword – imagine the havoc that would ensue if that tradition was still upheld today! England also has their own tradition when it comes to this important job; the responsibilities are generally the same but the role is referred to as a “pageboy” rather than a ring bearer.

Today, while the ring bearer is still a symbolic part of the wedding ceremony, their responsibility is mainly to uphold the tradition while adding an element of undeniable cute-ness to the event. Many couples choose to attach placeholder rings on the ring bearer’s pillow instead of the real rings to avoid any issues or accidents.

The blue corduroy bear seemed to fit right in with the look of burlap and lace, and is certainly much more fun for a little guy to carry, than a pillow.

To coordinate with the burlap and lace wedding decor, I simply tied a wide white satin ribbon around the teddy bear's neck and then adhered a burlap flower.

And if you’re really feeling festive, you can always add a bow tie to the bear to coordinate with the ring bearer’s ensemble. Wouldn’t that just be un-bear-ably adorable?!
