Heat Up Your Spring with these Outdoor Date Ideas

With sunny days and warm nights, there’s no excuse for the same old date night of dinner and a movie.

Now that spring has officially arrived, and it’s unofficially date season, take advantage of the seasonable temps, head outside and connect with your date in a fun, unique way that’ll have sparks flying brighter than on the 4th of July!

Our top outdoor date ideas are pretty diverse, so you’re sure to find something to tickle your fancy. Whether you want to lay back and soak up the sun on the bow of a boat together, spend an evening under the stars, or go on an adventurous mountain climb, the possibilities are endless for you and your date!

Head to a Summer Festival – As much as summer is the unofficial dating season, it IS the official concert/festival one. There is an endless array of outdoor fests to find no matter where you live, so choose one and go!

Get Wet – You’re first thought might be the beach, but this includes everything from washing your car to kicking back on a boat to hitting up a water park. Water activities are fun, flirty and low-key, so pressure to be perfectly coiffed or particularly chatty is far lower, which means you’ll actually enjoy your date!

Amusement Parks – Speaking of water parks, any amusement park is a great outdoor date. You can chat comfortably in crowds as you wait online for rides, give your adrenaline an output on the actual roller coasters and enjoy walking around in the sun with classic date food. Funnel cake for two? Yes, please!

Wine Tour – Looking for something more…romantic? Nothing is more appropriate than a visit to the closest vineyards. Enjoy a laid-back afternoon sampling delicious wines, munching on itsy-bitsy bites and then see what specials the wineries have for an outdoor meal.

Take a Drive – Rent a hot car for the day, pack a picnic lunch and just hit the road! We recommend opting for more out of the way spots where traffic won’t put a damper on the day and will offer an ideal spot for your picnic. (See the above wine tour idea to really impress your date!)

Outdoor Movie – There was once a time when drive-in movies were the “it” thing to do. Granted, these drive-ins aren’t as easy to find nowadays, but outdoor movie showings during the summer are. Check your local parks for special showings. All you need is to pack a blanket, bottle of wine (and red cups!), some popcorn and a light sweater.

Fly Kites – This one sounds like something you might have done with your 12-year-old “girlfriend” but that’s why it’s so sweet. Head to the beach, park or other open space nearby and spend some time flying your kite. It’s a fun and easy way to get to know one another.

Garage Sale Hop – For a second or third date, keep things casual so you can actually get to know one another. Wander the neighborhood on a nice Saturday afternoon to check out the endless summer garage sales. Pick up things you think your date will like, interact with items that trigger your own memories and share stories. Hit up a local pub for some lunch and talk some more over happy hour beers.

Horseback Riding – We like to think of this one as a little bit adventure and a little bit romantic all rolled into one. There’s something so timeless about horseback riding and always lots of happy butterflies in your stomach when you go.

Go to a Game – Find you’re both fans of the same team? Get some tickets and go to a game.

Romantic Walk – Go for a stroll with your date, ice cream cone in hand. Spots like local gardens, bridges or shorelines are ideal thanks to the scenery!

Stargazing – Summer skies are beautiful and it’s warm enough at night to lay out your picnic blanket, lie back and appreciate the expansive skies. Nothing could be so simple, yet so romantic and sweet. Try to find a spot that’s more secluded and away from any big city lights to ensure you’ve got the best view.

Go on an Adventure - Hiking, mountain climbing, bungee jumping are all examples. A date like this is guaranteed to leave a lasting-impact and also makes for a great story!
