On This Day, 30 Years Ago...

Five teenagers met for the first time in Saturday detention. In a boring Chicago suburb, five classmates from five completely different cliques were forced to suffer together in the school library for 8 hours and 54 minutes.

I'm talking of course about the group of young actors (affectionately known as the Brat Pack) who starred in the hit John Hughes film The Breakfast Club. The movie was released in 1985, but takes place on March 24, 1984 – exactly 30 years ago from today. If that doesn't make you feel old, I don't know what will.

So here's to the movie that shaped our view of high school life, and how we saw other kids from other cliques. We're celebrating John Hughes, and the brains, athletes, basket cases, princesses and criminals inside all of us.
