Burlap and Lace Pew Bows

Rustic meets sophisticated in pew bows made of burlap, organza and lace.  It's a suitable combination for a church ceremony, or a more casual outdoor venue.

Putting the burlap and lace together makes a most interesting blend of natural earthiness with a more delicate elegance. Pew bows are easy to make, and are one of the biggest focal points for a wedding. Tied to the ends of the pews or chairs, they highlight the aisle where the wedding party will walk, and where  all eyes will turn to greet the entrance of the bride.

For these bows, I used a wide burlap ribbon and made them nice and full for a more romantic and dramatic feel. The burlap ribbon was especially nice to work with because the edges were finished.

After creating each bow, I added some delicately embellished tulle and a white satin ribbon.  A white silk rose and a little sprig of green ivy topped it off so beautifully.

Supplies
  • 6 inch wide burlap ribbon
  • 6 inch wide printed tulle
  • 3 inch wide white satin ribbon
  • 3/4 inch wide lace ribbon
  • Silk roses
  • Silk ivy sprigs
  • Florist wire
  • Hot Glue
Directions

Step 1: Begin the bow by making a 4 inch loop of ribbon.  Hold it together with your fingers in the center, and form the other 4 inch loop on the other side.

Step 2: Keep the center pinched together as your make 2 more loops on each side.  Each time you bring a loop to the center, twist the burlap over.  This will make the bow fuller.

Step 3: When you have 3 loops on each side, attach a piece of florist wire to the center of the bow and twist tightly.

Step 4: Tie a length of the white satin ribbon around the center of the burlap bow--covering the florist wire.  Then tie a length of burlap ribbon and the printed tulle onto the back side of the bow to form the streamers. I made the streamers about 3 feet long.  The long flowing lengths of burlap and tulle give an elegant and dramatic look to the pew bows.  Finally, attach the silk rose and ivy sprig with a dot of hot glue.

Step 5: Tie the bow to the pew with the satin ribbon.

What  a beautiful way to highlight the walkway for the new Mr. and Mrs!
