DIY Chalkboard Cheese Serving Tray

When setting up a wine and cheese pairing, labeling your different cheeses is one of the most important parts. After all, guests want to know what they'll be spreading on crackers or popping in their mouth before they give it a taste!

One of the easiest and chicest ways to set up a labeled cheese serving tray is with a chalkboard platter, which is incredibly easy to make. We started with a plain unfinished wooden plaque from Michael's that we thought would be the perfect base for the cheese assortment. With just a couple coats of chalkboard paint, we created a lovely rustic display for our Mother's Day Wine and Cheese party.

Make sure you thoroughly clean the top of your board before serving food on it. The best part about this chalkboard paint is that it's so easy to clean off after you've written on it! When you're not using for cheese and snacks, repurpose it as a fun message board at any party, or as a chalkboard sign to welcome guests – the possibilities are endless!

Step 1: Start by cleaning off the surface of your wooden plaque. Dry completely, making sure there are no pieces of dust or lint on the surface.

Step 2: Tape off the edges of the plaque you don't want covered in paint.

Step 3: Cover with one coat of chalkboard paint. Wait to dry (about 30 minutes), and cover with another coat.

Step 4: Wait for plaque to completely dry, about 8-10 hours to be safe (I let mine dry overnight). Once dry, wipe down with a damp cloth and a tiny bit of mild dish soap.

Step 5: Once clean and dry, arrange your cheeses and label accordingly with chalk. Serve, and enjoy!
