Cinco de Mayo Kids Party Decorations

Make your decorations for a kids Cinco de Mayo party all about color!

Picture a mariachi band, a sombrero or a taco salad. Then pull your color scheme from those images. Red, orange, yellow, green and pink are instantly festive, and they are all you need for a kid-friendly fiesta.

To cut costs, we always recommend using homemade paper decorations. For an informal party with the kids, a banner, bright paper plates and cups, paper streamers on the chairs and an easy centerpiece (think pinata!) are all you need.

For a more put-together look if you're inviting friends over, think about downloadable printables. There are a ton online to choose from and can transform your party space on a budget - if you're lucky, you'll find some free designs!

This Cinco de Mayo Fiesta for the Kids party the Savvy Moms threw is sure to get your creativity flowing.

Additional decor ideas, for those of us who may not have the opportunity to handcraft decorations, are easy to find at the local party store. Here are a few must buys:

Papel Picado: When you see one of these fun flag banners flying, you know there is a fiesta taking place. You can buy or make papel picado, and then hang them from the ceiling or tree branches for a great festive decoration.

Pinatas: You can't have a fiesta without these candy-filled decorations. Hang several small piatas around the party space. Choose different shapes such as donkeys, stars and sombreros, and let kids pick which one to take a swing at.

Mexican Flag Backdrop: Create a photo op by hanging red, white and green fabric side by side (like stripes on the Mexican flag) from a wall or fence. Place a cactus cutout or inflatable cactus in front. Scatter a few sombreros on the ground, and let kids choose one to wear while you take a picture to send home.
