Creating Special Moments at Your Wedding

A wedding with a concise amount of guests lends itself perfectly to creating special, highly memorable moments. So take some time to think about how you might best take advantage of the situation – particularly in regard to the ceremony.

Some couples, for example, may want to generate a sense of intimacy by reciting their own vows or by asking all the guests to circle around them for the duration of the ceremony. Inviting certain guests to participate in the ceremony is another way to heighten the ritual.

A small reception might inspire untraditional toasts to the newlywed couple, or, given by the new Mr. and Mrs.

Other ways to veer from convention at a small-scale wedding:

Design a unique invitation that expresses your personalities with clever graphics or wording.

Keep it all casual, including the attire. Select a knee- or tea-length wedding gown and simple cocktail dresses for the bridesmaids. The groom’s guys can wear sports coats and slacks.

Forgo a formal dinner and instead serve passed-around finger-food. This will maintain a party atmosphere for the duration of the day.

Dedicate a song or a dance to honor special guests, such as grandparents or great-grandparents, out-of-towners, or step-parents.

Ask guests to wear a particular color, a special hat, or a vintage article of clothing.  Any of these will trigger a wedding theme of sorts, and inspire fun photos. They will also serve to spark conversation and unite everyone attending.

Distribute elegant goody bags to each guest, instead of standard favors. Each bag can contain local specialty treats, such as jellies or cookies from a nearby retailer.

Instead of a large, main wedding cake, display one small cake on a stand at each table. Each cake can be a different design, but do keep the color scheme consistent. As for cake flavors, the sky’s the limit!
