Creative Kids Packed School Lunch Ideas

With school right around the corner, it’s time to create some new lunch ideas that kids will actually enjoy eating. While some kids are eager to be reunited with their friends, most get a bad case of the back-to-school jitters. Calm those nerves by providing them a healthy and creative lunch that tastes delicious too. Kids will love both the look and the thought that was put into these scrumptious lunches!

Peanut Butter and Jelly Rollups

If your child is a picky eater, then these peanut butter and jelly rollups are a must-have! Creating this sandwich in a wrap takes the traditional PB&J to a whole new level -- and they look so cute in your child’s lunchbox. Your kids will be able to share this lunch with friends so easily too.

Apple (With Worm!) PB and J Sandwiches

Talk about a fun surprise--your child will love seeing this cute, apple-shaped sandwich complete with a worm sticking out of it! The celery sprig on top makes the entire thing super convincing. This sandwich looks delightful, but is really easy to make; all it takes is a circular cut-out to create something special. Everyone will talk about how wonderful this sandwich looks, and your child will be delighted about the bonus gummy worm in the lunchbox!

Black Bean Star Brownies

As soon as your child opens his or her lunchbox they are going to smile in awe of these star shaped brownies. I would have never thought to use beans in my brownies, but you wouldn’t believe that it actually goes unnoticed! The best part is that because the black beans replace the flour in the recipe, they are gluten free brownies as well. Cutting these black bean brownies into stars makes them even more appealing! Sneak one or two of these into your child’s lunchbox and their back to school jitters will float away.

Turkey Sushi Sandwich

It may be difficult to get your kids to try sushi, so why not give them the same feel with their favorite ingredients? Try this turkey sushi sandwich next time you’re stumped as to what they should have for lunch. All you have to do is take the crusts off your bread, add turkey, cheese and either mayo or mustard, and roll! Kids will love this unique approach to the simple turkey sandwich.

Tip: Make sure your bread is soft otherwise it will not roll easily!

Bear Sandwich

Kids love to play with their food so spice up their lunch by creating unique animals in their sandwiches. This bear sandwich is made with mozzarella, cheddar cheese and blueberries. The best part is you can make the inside with your kids’ favorite sandwich meats so they are completely customizable! Just make sure you have some circle cutters for the bear's face!

Peanut Butter and Jelly Burrito

This sandwich a great alternative for when bread starts to feel boring. This is a healthier alternative to a standard PB&J that your kids will be excited to help make. Plus, it can withstand long school days without unraveling, thanks to the sticky peanut butter. You can add bananas and Rice Krispies like this recipe reccomends, or you can switch it up by adding apples instead. Your children will have a blast eating this fun rollup!

Ham Sandwich on a Stick

I always get frustrated when I create a huge sandwich, go in for a bite and the entire thing falls apart. These wooden skewers solve all those problems! When packing up your kid’s lunch, simply assemble the sandwich on a skewer to keep everything nice and neat, especially during those long, bumpy bus rides! Use any meats and cheeses you like to create this creative sandwich on a stick.

Tip: Make sure you remove the sharp tips from the skewers before serving to your little ones!
