4 Sweet Valentine's Day Desserts Served With Love

As a kid, Valentine's Day was the time of year you could look forward to getting fun messages and candy from your classmates. As adults, the emphasis is more on flowers, champagne and romance. But who says you need to cut the sweets out completely when celebrating a grown-up V-Day?

For Valentine's Day this year, I set up a fun, sophisticated spread that's perfect for a daytime luncheon or evening cocktail party. I kept the fare light, and of course had plenty of champagne on hand, but the big focus was on all the desserts.

Instead of just leaving out boxes of chocolates  or miniature-wrapped store-bought candy, I added some creative touches to my favorite desserts. The focus was all on the presentation, which made the treats really stand out on the table. Check out my favorite Valentine's Day treats, and the chic ways that I served them.

DIY Donut Pops

Cake pops, and pretty much anything on a stick is trendy these days. For an easy way to serve dessert that's on-trend, I stuck in some lollipops to store-bought mini chocolate and powdered donuts. This made for easy serving, and even easier devouring! Set them out on a nice tray for an even classier effect.

Fruit-Topped Heart Cookies

Sometimes, it's better to leave the baking up to the pros. I wanted to serve up some delicious Valentine's Day cookies that looked as amazing as they tasted, so I turned to Cheryl's for their delicious buttercream-frosted cookies. I went with the Valentine cut-out cookies, which came in adorable heart shapes already frosted and decorated. To add my own personal touch, I topped several of the pink cookies with strawberry pieces. When you slice a strawberry vertically, the pieces look like little hearts. I thought they fit perfectly on top of the cookies!

Champagne-Infused Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Chocolate-covered strawberries are a quintessential Valentine's Day treat, but I wanted my strawberries to act like part of the table decor. Instead of standard chocolate-covered berries, I ordered Champagne Celebration Strawberries from Fannie May. The berries are covered in champagne-infused white chocoalte, and topped with gold and silver sprinkles. The pink and white berries looked to festive displayed out on a silver serving tray. I added a layer to the tray by propping it on top of a red coffee table book.

Chocolate-Covered Cherries

Chocolate-covered cherries come in many varieties, especially around Valentine's Day. But how boring is it to serve them from the box? I wanted chocolate-covered cherries with the stems still attached, because I think it's a fun added element to the classic treat. I also want guests to know what they are eating before they pop one in their mouths -- none of this mystery chocolates business! These Belgian Chocolate-Covered Cherries from Fruit Bouquets are drizzled with white chocolate, so they look chic displayed on their own. I wanted to add layers to the dessert table, so I created a raised serving tray by setting a crystal bowl on top of a candle holder. It really made the cherries stand out!
