Crushed Candy Corn Cupcakes

Crushed candy corn makes Halloween cupcakes sweeter, more colorful, and entirely un-scary. Because sugar always needs more sugar, right?


The best part of these sweet Halloween treats is that you can use your favorite cupcake and icing flavors – make a variety of combinations to please all of your guests! You should have at least the basics – chocolate and vanilla cupcakes – so guests of all snack preferences have something to satisfy their senses. We took these cupcakes to another level by adding adorable black cat cupcake toppers for a treat that’s just so cute guests will want to eat them up!

 

 

Since candy corn is so readily available (and inexpensive) during the Halloween season, be sure to buy extra and place in candy bowls around the room for an easy way to add that festive touch to the décor. You can even fill a large glass bowl with these colorful candies as an easy and super sweet centerpiece!

 

 

Supplies
  • Cupcakes
  • Frosting
  • Disposable decorating bag*
  • Size “12” decorating tip
  • Rubber band
  • Candy corn
  • Zip-top bag
  • Mallet or hammer

Directions

Step 1: Place a couple handfuls of candy corn in a zip-top bag. Use the mallet or hammer to crush the candy. Be sure to place the bag over a cutting board or towel to prevent damage to the surface beneath. Set aside.

Step 2: Prepare your favorite cupcakes according to the recipe and let cool completely.

Step 3: Prepare frosting according to your favorite recipe, or, use store-bought frosting. (TIP: To thicken store-bought frosting so it’s easier to pipe, stir in confectioner’s sugar until the desired consistency is reached.) Fit a decorating bag with the tip, fill with frosting, and close tightly with a rubber band.

Step 4: Working with one cupcake at a time, pipe a swirl to cover the top of the cupcake with frosting. Immediately coat with crushed candy corn.
