Decorative Block St. Patrick's Day Craft

Sometimes some decorating possibilities are right under your nose. Before you head to the store, look around your house and see what inspires some St. Patrick's Day crafts turned decor. Imagine a new life for something you have lying around and reuse it to create a little St. Patrick's Day decoration for your home.

And no matter the season or the holiday, whatever you do, don't ever throw those scrap pieces of wood from home improvement projects away! I spotted this little piece of a 2x4 in the garage and I knew I had a plan for it. This little wooden block became a whimsical St. Patrick's Day craft project - one that's simple, sweet and easy to customize for whatever occasion you're celebrating.

This block decoration is an oh, so easy, do-it-yourself project and it will definitely be an attention-getter when it's displayed in your home this St. Patrick's Day. All wrapped up in green, and sporting a little Irish phrase, this St. Patrick's Day decoration will add Irish cheer to a shelf or table in an instant!

Step 1: Sand the wooden block until fairly smooth. You want to avoid any splinters but maintain a more unfinished look - unless you don't, in which case sand away until completely smooth.

Step 2: Paint the block with white acrylic paint and allow to dry completely.

Step 3: Using a fun font, print your message on the patterned paper, or you can use stickers or vinyl letters to write your phrase.

Step 4: Cut the paper to fit the front of the wood block--leaving about 1/4-inch border all the way around.

Step 5: With a small sponge, ink the edges of the paper with black ink.

Step 6: Add some shamrock stickers or other embellishment to the paper to give the St. Patrick's Day craft you're making some added flair.

Step 7: Adhere the decorative paper to the front of the wooden block with Mod Podge. Allow it to dry, then apply 2 more coats of Mod Podge to finish and seal.

Step 8: Tie a length of green satin ribbon all the way around the block and tie a ribbon on the top.

Step 9: Find a little spot in your home for some St. Patrick's Day whimsy and display your block there.
