Dinosaur Felt Board Kids Party Activity

A felt activity board is the perfect party activity for toddlers! The felt pieces will stick to the board and kids will have a blast moving them around.

I’m going to teach you how to make a board of your own—dinosaur-style—but you can adapt this tutorial to match your party theme or your child’s interests simply by using different stencils.

To start, head to your local hardware store and pick up large wooden board that will fit a wall in your home. Most of the time you’ll be able to find a piece that’s already cut and ready to go, but if not, you can buy a larger piece of wood and have the store cut it down to size for you. Don’t forget to make a dinosaur banner and dinosaur wreath to go along with your dino-themed party, too!

  • Large Wooden Board (at least 1/2 inch thick)
  • White Felt (large enough to cover your board)
  • Staple Gun
  • Fabric Scissors
  • Dinosaur Stencils
  • Volcano and Palm Tree Stencils
  • Colorful Felt
  • Fabric Pencil
  • Hanging Hardware

Step 1: Place the wooden board on the white piece of felt. Trim the felt so it’s 2-3 inches larger than the board. Stretch the felt around the board and use a staple gun to secure the felt to the back of the board.

Step 2: Trace the dinosaur, volcano and palm tree stencils onto colorful felt using a fabric pencil. You should be able to find stencils at your local craft store, or look for free images online that you can print onto cardstock and cut out for tracing.

Step 3: Attach hanging hardware to the back of the wooden board and hang. Allow children to place the felt pieces on the board and move them as they desire. The felt pieces should stick to the felt board on their own!

They'll love having their favorite larger-than life characters to "play" with at the party. See if the kiddies know the names of all of their prehistoric pals!
