Dinosaur Theme Birthday Banner
Add a dinosaur themed birthday banner to your child's birthday party for a day of roar-ing fun. This project is easy to make and inexpensive for the perfect DIY decoration idea.
Rawr! Your little paleontologists will love this dinosaur banner, which is the perfect quick and easy project (my kind of crafting!) for a dinosaur-themed birthday party. All you need is cardstock, glue, jute and a little bit of time, and once you have those on hand, this step-by-step tutorial will walk you through the process.
I made this dinosaur banner for my son’s upcoming 3rd birthday party and plan on hanging it above the dessert table. You could also hang your handmade banner above the front door to greet your party guests or on a boring wall that needs some decorating.
To add to the birthday party fun, don't forget to make dinosaur treat jars as party favors and a dinosaur wreath (using miniature toy dinosaurs) too!
Small Hole Punch
Cutting Machine (Silhouette or Cricut) OR Dinosaur Stencils
Step 1: Cut green and blue cardstock into 8 ½-inch x 5 ½-inch rectangles, then cut a large but shallow “V” shape into the bottom of each rectangle (see photograph for exact shape). Make as many as you need to reach your desired banner length, then punch 2 small holes 2 inches apart from each other at the top of each flag, centered.
Step 2: Use a cutting machine (i.e. Silhouette or Cricut) or dinosaur stencils to cut 3 1/2 inch wide dinosaurs out of green and blue cardstock. You can purchase dinosaur stencils at your local craft store or find free dinosaur graphics online to use as stencils.
Step 3: Use a glue stick to attach the dinosaurs to the rectangular flags, pairing green dinos with blue flags and vice versa.
Step 4: String jute through the small holes at the top of each flag, alternating colors, and hang.
