DIY Beaded Napkin Rings Tutorial

For budget-conscious hostesses, all it takes is a bit of creativity and DIY know-how to add a touch of elegance to any seated dinner party.

While you may not have the fanciest china or latest pattern on your table, it’s quite possible to set the scene for an elegantly chic dinner party at home with what you’ve got! It’s all about the details.

Handmade beaded napkin rings are the perfect way to dress up each place setting around your table. Not only is it cost effective, but you can also experiment with different colors and patterns to make sure your napkin rings match whatever design you’re planning. Make up a batch of orange beaded rings for Thanksgiving or red and green for Christmas when dinner guests are plentiful, but consider crafting a second set for everyday celebrating in a pearly white. I personally love the simplicity and elegance of pearl seed beads, plus, they match just about any occasion. Either way, the possibilities here are endless.

These rings are simple and inexpensive to make, two crafting prerequisites of mine. Follow this easy step by step tutorial and make a set of beaded rings. Your napkins, and your party guests, will thank you.

Supplies
  • Pearl White Seed Beads
  • 20 Gauge Jewelry Wire
  • Wire Cutter
  • Round Nose Jewelry Pliers
Directions

Step 1: Cut a piece of jewelry wire approximately 18 inches in length using wire cutters.

Step 2: Bend one end of the wire into a loop using round nose pliers. This will prevent any of the beads from falling off the wire.

Step 3: Thread the wire with pearl seed beads, or whatever beads you are working with, and then, once filled, bend the open end into a loop using round nose pliers. Curl the beaded wire around a tube of some sort. I used a small craft paint bottle.

Step 4: Place around napkins as rings.

You can follow this same tutorial to craft wine or glass charms for your stemware as well. Simply cut the jewelry wire into smaller strips and instead of curling the end of the final side, leave it as an upturned end and hook into the other side’s loop. You’ll have to make sure you keep them closed to keep the beads from falling off, but they make the perfect pair to your napkin rings. Remember to add a different bead to each center so no two are the same!
