DIY Bohemian Centerpiece Idea

Wow your guests with an eclectic centerpiece to suit an outdoor boho-style party this summer! A bohemian party should be artistic, eclectic, and romantic, while feeling relaxed and effortless at the same time. Your guests will be gathered around a low table, lounging on comfy pillows and rugs for a laid-back dining experience. So the centerpiece should coordinate with that carefree and romantic atmosphere.

To start, set the stage with a global tablecloth incorporating bright colors and graphic patterns. Then, scatter a collection of flickering candles down the table, mixed in amongst various glass bottles holding wild flowers and greenery for a really lush effect. It’s a carefully curated look that will feel thrown-together, which is fitting of the colorful, eclectic, and romantic bohemian style. Here’s exactly how to do it.

  • Bright and graphic tablecloth or tapestry
  • Assorted glass vases and bottles
  • Flowers and greenery
  • Potted plants
  • Pillar and taper candles and holders

Step 1: Once you’ve placed your tablecloth on the table, corral a mismatched group of glass vases and bottles in varying heights. Pieces with interesting shapes or textures are best—think vintage barware and apothecary jars.  Then, fill the vases with assorted florals and greenery. I used inexpensive flowers from the grocery store, but picked ones that were unique and wild-looking. I also added greenery clippings from our yard to get a really lush look.

Step 2: Scatter the floral pieces down the center of the table, focusing the taller vases toward the center and tapering the shorter vases outward.  Include potted plants that have coordinating colors and interesting planters as well.

Step 3: Collect pillar and taper candles and mismatched candleholders. I used an eclectic combination of wood, silver, and gold candleholders, with a few spray-painted ones mixed in as well. Scatter the candles in amongst the foliage—taller ones towards the center, and shorter ones in the outskirts.

Step 4: At dusk, light your candles and enjoy the romantic look of the flickering candles reflecting off of the glass vases, and the lush, wild florals.

This centerpiece coordinates with the bohemian backdrop, eclectic table settings, and boho style seating.
