DIY Cast Your Vote for Baby Poster

Parents-to-be aren’t settling for simple phone calls to let friends and family know they’re expecting a little boy or girl. Today, they’re making baby’s gender reveal a reason to celebrate and inviting all the important people in their life over for gender reveal parties. Apart from sharing some spectacular news with those people you cherish most, one of the best things about having a Gender Reveal Party is how involved all your guests can be with the big news.

For a recent party we had for a mom and dad who were expecting, we planned a few interactive games for all the guests. All of these games revolved around the guests’ individual thoughts on what gender they expected baby to be. Since everyone has their own opinions and its fun to see which “team” each of the guests belong to, we thought we’d make a focal point for our party out of a chalkboard tally poster backdrop.

This poster board is incredibly simple and inexpensive to make with just a few supplies, but its role at the party is pretty important and a big addition to the overall fun factor.

Poster Board (We used white foam board, but you could use a scrap of plywood or anything else you might already have on hand.)

Small bottle of black chalkboard paint

Sponge brush

Pink, Blue, and White Chalk

Step 1: Paint your foam board with a first coat of chalkboard paint. Try to get the paint as even as possible all across the surface. Allow to dry completely and then apply a second layer. Repeat this process until you have a chalkboard base you’re happy with.

Step 2: Using the chalk, decorate the poster board or chalkboard with a title stating “Cast Your Vote!”. Then create a grid with Team Blue and Team Pink.

Step 3: You can mount this tally board or simply lean it against the wall at a particular focal point in your space. Since you want everyone to see the board and keep track of each guest’s guess, we suggest the former. The poster board is super light weight and can be tacked to the wall easily or even hung with sticky tack for easy removal.
