DIY Duck Frames for a Ducky Baby Shower

If you're looking for an inexpensive and simple-to-make decoration, these framed duck silhouettes can be hung in a series to create a backdrop for a dessert table at a baby shower.

And the best part is, the mother-to-be is sure to appreciate using these cuties to decorate her baby’s nursery after the shower is over!

The laser-cut frames used here are available at most craft stores nationwide. (The ones I used were less than $3 apiece.) But if you can’t find them, this method will work just as well using any regular frame with a glass front.

  • Laser cut frame with 11x14 opening
  • Yellow spray paint
  • Grey foam core
  • Yellow and white patterned scrapbook paper
  • Duck Silhouette Template
  • Hot glue

Step 1: In a well-ventilated area, spray paint the laser cut frame and let dry completely.

Step 2: Next, cut the foam core. The opening to the frames I used measured 11x14 inches. Be sure to measure the opening to the frames you choose. If it isn’t 11x14 inches, measure and cut foam core to 1/4 inch larger than your opening. (If you are unable to find foam core in grey, use white; then, cover the board in grey paper.)

Step 3: Using the free downloadable template for the duck silhouette, cut a duck out of your choice of yellow patterned scrapbook paper. Then, use a glue stick to glue the duck to the center of the cut pieces of grey foam core.

Step 4: Put a small dot of hot glue to each corner of the grey foam core on the side that will show through the frame. Adhere the foam core carefully to the opening of the frame. Your pieces of art are now ready to hang!

Note: If you would prefer a less permanent adhesive than hot glue to attach the ducks if you want to re-use the frames at a later date, simply tape the foam core to the frame instead of using hot glue.
