DIY Flip-Flop Favors for a Beach Bridal Shower

For a unique party favor at a beach-themed bridal shower, make a pair of unique flip-flops!

Gift them in the beginning of the party so guests can take full advantage and swap their fancy heels for a shoe more suited for the sand.

These are an especially excellent favor for those who may be bridesmaids. They can wear them during the reception when they’re ready to kick off their heels!

  • Flip-flops
  • 1/2-inch white satin ribbon (4 yards per flop pair)
  • 3/4-inch white satin ribbon (1 yard per flop pair)
  • 1-inch white satin ribbon (1 yard per flop pair)
  • Wide white lace (8 inches)
  • Pearls (10 per pair)
  • Needle and thread
  • Fabric glue

To cover up the clear plastic part of the flip-flop:

Step 1: Cut a two-yard piece of 1/2-inch wide ribbon. White ribbon was used here, but you can get creative. Wrap the ribbon around the strap a few times, making sure that the end of the ribbon is no longer visible.

Step 2: Put a dab of fabric glue on the inside ribbon (the part that will touch the foot and not visible) and use a paper clip to hold the ribbon tight. Let this dry. Gluing down the end will ensure that the ribbon doesn’t unravel when the shoe is worn. You’ll do the same thing at the other end once you finish wrapping the ribbon all the way around the strap.

Step 3: After the glue is dry, continue to wrap the ribbon around the strap until the strap is completely covered.

For the embellishments:

Step 1: To make these rosettes, cut a 7-inch long piece of the 1-inch satin ribbon. Fold it in half and run a whipstitch along the unfolded edge. Pull gently on the thread until the ribbon curls into a tight circle. Stitch together the ends.

Step 2: Cut a short length of lace, and accordion fold it to make a small fan. Either glue or stitch the fan at the bottom to keep its shape.

Step 3: Glue the lace to the back of the rosette so that the edge of the lace peeks out from the rosette.

Step 4: Create the figure-eight accents with a 7-inch piece of ribbon. Whipstitch one edge of the ribbon and pull the thread until the ribbon curls. Instead of stitching the ends to make a circle, twist the ribbon into a figure eight and then stitch the ends together.

To assemble the final flip flop:

Step 1: Glue the rosette with lace to the middle portion of the strap over the toe thong. Make sure the lace points to the outside of the foot on each shoe in the pair. Tuck the figure eight accent’s edge under the lace of the rosette and glue down.

Step 2: Using a pair of tweezers, add pearls to the centers of the rosettes with a spot of glue.

Step 3: Tie them off in pairs with a favor tag and they are ready to thank your guests!
