Fall in Love with this DIY Glitter Leaf Garland

Is there any season prettier than fall? As the leaves change to warm auburn and gold colors, and pumpkins are ready for the picking, it's hard to argue with how gorgeous autumn can be. To bring some of the pretty nature-inspired decor indoors, we made this beautiful (and super easy) glitter leaf garland craft to hang all season long through Thanksgiving.

We're always looking for fun and fresh ways to create seasonal decor here at Celebrations, without getting too over-the-top or cheesy. Thanks to the talented folks over at 6th Street Design, we were super inspired by their glitter leaf garland that's been making the rounds on Pinterest. We just had to try it for ourselves, and we happened to have all of these supplies on hand.

If you don't have the supplies already, a quick trip to the craft store is all you need to pull off this stunning, yet simple DIY. We took the glitter leaves, punched holes in them, and hung them from brown ribbon to make a pretty metallic garland. But you can keep the glittered leaves as they are and use them to adorn your fall tablescape, or display in a clear apothecary jar for some autumn decor.

Although glitter is gorgeous, working with it is horrifically messy. We did the best we could by glittering the leaves each separately on cardboard trays, so just be mindful when working with loose glittery the potential for sparkles everywhere!

We had some gorgeous Wow! brand glitter in metallic shades on hand in our craft room, and love how the different shades complement each other. By mixing and matching the gold, copper and darker espresso shades, the garland definitely evoked the warm feelings of fall. Hang this over your mantel, window or create a lovely photo backdrop. Just be sure you have a broom and vacuum ready!

Supplies

  • Mod podge
  • Sponge brushes
  • Metallic glitter in various shades

Directions

Step 1: If your leaves come in a bunch, cut them off using wire cutters. Using your sponge brush, coat each leaf in mod podge, front and back

Step 2: The glitter technique is up to you. Either pour all the glitter on a paper plate or tray, and cover each side of the leaf in glitter, or pour the glitter directly onto the glue-soaked leaf.

Step 3: After the glue dries and the glitter sets (at least 30 minutes), shake off the excess glitter.

Step 4: Using a standard hole punch, punch a hole at the base of each leaf. Tie a piece of brown ribbon to each leaf (of varying lengths).

Step 5. Hang a piece of ribbon horizontally, and then tie the additional ribbon and leaves to the garland. Mix and match colors to create enough variation.

Step 6: Enjoy your glitzy new fall decor!
