9 Halloween Hairstyles That Make the Costume: Katniss, Tinkerbell & More

Every Halloween, I plan on wearing a knock-out costume, but I'm never willing to spend a lot of money or time to achieve it. A few years ago I decided that DIY costumes were better than store-bought ones, and I started collecting Pins of costume ideas. What I’ve learned: Most great costumes start with a good hair tutorial, and not necessarily an intricate outfit.

This silly gal is known for her stand out hair and quirky style. With this tutorial from Make, your hair will stand at attention, and get you a huge step closer to being done with your costume. Just add some jeans and an oversized flannel to finish it off.

Katniss Everdeen from 'The Hunger Games'

Of course a Katniss costume would be nothing without the braid (actually she would just be a girl wearing all black). This simple how-to from Hairstyles Tutorial is right on when it comes to being this Mocking Jay.

Cat Ears

via xovain.com

Probably one of the most popular Halloween go-tos, a cat only needs ears, a nose and some added whiskers (all which can be painted on with a black eye pencil). Skip heading to the costume store and buying cat ears, and do them yourself! Even if your just another one in the litter, you’re sure to stand out with these hair ears from XO Vain.

Troll Doll

Recently Pinterest has been swamped with troll costumes. I love the silly childish costume, and might have to break it out for a party this Halloween. Luckily I found this tutorial from Greasy Mag to help me do my hair up. Throw in a nude leotard and a few troll friends, and I think I’ll be set!

80’s Glam

Go big or go home. This tutorial from The Beauty Department is great for jazzing up your 80’s glam leg warmers and studded jacket.  Throw in some neon makeup, and you’ll rock it!

Khaleesi from 'Game of Thrones'

This queen always has some killer hairstyles, and without them she just wouldn’t be complete. This how-to from Just Do Iy is one of her more easy styles, and great for the not-so-hair-savvy gals like me.

1960's Beehive

This retro style would work perfectly with some #throwback outfits. Whether you rummage through your own vintage closet, or your mom’s you’re sure to find something great to go with Wish Wish Wish’s tutorial.

Birds Nest

This cute hairstyle is a costume all on its own, and a piece of art work. Though you might need a hand or two to help put all of this foliage in place, you’re sure to get some compliments all night long.

Tinker Bell

via babble.com

While any Disney Princess would be a great, and easy costume. Tink’s hair is simple enough to do thanks to this tutorial from Babble. Plus you can’t be Tinker Bell without her bun!
