DIY Headband Activity For a Girl's Birthday

Planning a birthday party for a girl can be a daunting task, but you can keep them active while still being creative - it just takes a bit of planning.

Girls love to be creative and experiment with their sense of fashion, even from a young age, and with DIY headbands and hair bows being so popular right now, girls will love crafting their own accessories as a birthday party activity.

There are a few easy ways to set up a crafting station before your party. At a table for the girls, set up everything the girls will need to make their accessories. Portion the supplies for each girl so they aren't fighting for glue, buttons, fabric etc. If you can, create individual kits for each girl with an assortment of supplies so it makes things easy.

I've included a few fun DIY ideas for you that I think any girl would love to help inspire the designs you plan.

Simple DIY Braided Headband Craft for Girls:

For a girl's party that might be a little bit younger and not able to handle a hot glue gun, have them make fun fabric headbands out of t-shirts. The set up is really easy. Just shred a piece of fabric into five equal strips and sew them together in one bundle. (See the image below).

Set them up on a table and have each girl braid her own headband. You can use different color fabrics and patterns to make this a little bit more fun. Once the girls are done braiding, fasten the ends together with a needle and thread (as seen in the image below) and cover it with a clean piece of fabric so your stitching is not visible.

These headbands make a really cute and fun craft for girls at a party. It will keep them occupied and they will love making their own fashion statement. For the full tutorial, be sure to visit Makeit-loveit.com.

Fabric Headband with Floral Accent:

If the girls are old enough, you can pick up a few elastic headbands, fabric flowers and jewels for the girls to glue together their handbands. I was a Girl Scout so I learned how to use a glue gun at a very early age, but kids should always be supervised when crafting, especially with glue guns.

This idea from Saucy Pants is a really cute way for girls to express themselves. You don't have to stick to flowers either. Try giving the girls feathers, beads even tulle so they can really get creative.

Embellished Bow Headband:

The easiest idea would be to purchase plain headbands with little bows on them and let the girls add their own embellishments. From sequins to fabric paint, I'm sure they will love getting creative and taking a simple black accessory into a fun hair piece that really shows off their own sense of style.

This black bow was actually homemade, but I love the idea of letting the girls upcycle an old headband or taking a plain black one and turning it into something new.

Would you try any of these DIY ideas at your daughters next birthday party?
