DIY Holiday Photo Card Ideas and Tips

The holiday season is the most popular time of year for taking photos of the children. Most photo cards we receive rarely include the adults but always feature the kids!

We have some ideas for you to help make the most of your kids photos for the holidays without going to an expensive studio. This is also a fun Christmas craft idea to get ready for the holiday.

The first thing we suggest is dressing the children up in coordinating outfits.

We chose a silk party dress and sweater for the young lady, and a stylish outfit complete with cashmere sweater for the gentleman.

Once you've got your looks, it's time to set the stage for festive photo taking.

A simple backdrop is easily created with some appropriate fabric. We used two yards of fabric in a red and white polka dot print, and flanked it with two curtain panels.

You should remember to have fun with the photos of the kids!

Take some shots that are posed and sweet, but also use some creative props for a more festive look.

Here we used two chalkboards from the craft store and wrote "Naughty" and "Nice" on them. The kids had fun making faces to reflect their board.

We also took some photos with printable photo props from Paper & Cake. Printable photo props are so popular and easy to use - just print, cut, and attach to a long skewer or dowel.

You can also create your own holiday props! All you need is a couple of wood dowels, some construction paper, glue and a bit of creativity!

These ideas are simple and the results are perfect for holiday greeting cards, crafting photo ornaments, or just framing and displaying.

So get the kids dressed to their best, have fun with photos and Happy Holidays!
