Fun Football Craft for Kids: DIY Megaphones for At-Home Tailgating

Every at-home tailgating, or "homegating" party needs a cheering section, and these quick and simple megaphones are great for getting your children involved in the party planning experience.

We often set up a crafting table at the start of our homegating parties so that they are ready to use by halftime. But you can always make them in advance and pass them out to your guests when they arrive, or even use them to decorate your buffet table.

I’ve used traditional football crafting themed paper for this project, and ribbons to decorate the base of the megaphone. The best part of this craft though is that you can be as creative as you like by adding stickers, team motifs, vinyl lettering and even paper dye cuts of football themed shaped.

Each megaphone costs less than $2 to make using the directions below, and takes under an hour to go from creating to dry and ready to use. So roll up your sleeves, blow your whistle and get to crafting!

  • Cardboard cone
  • Crafting paper
  • Ribbons or garlands
  • Foam brush
  • Mod Podge
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Step 1: Cut the top inch off of each cone you are using, taking care to fold over any rough patches with your fingers to create smooth finish.

Step 2: Cut your crafting paper into a triangle shape, with a bottom width that will cover the base of the cone, and then cut the top of the triangle flat across the top to match the width of the top of the megaphone.

Step 3: Cut ribbons that fit across the base of the megaphone and set those on a table with the cut paper, Mod Podge, foam brush and cone.

Step 4: Cut ribbons that fit across the base of the megaphone and set those on a table with the cut paper, Mod Podge, foam brush and cone.

Step 5: Allow the Mod Podge to dry, and then decorate with the ribbon across the base of the mega phone by gluing it to the cone. Once dry, let the cheering begin.
