DIY Personalized Grad Napkin Rings

Most summer graduation parties are casual celebrations and whether you're hosting indoors or out, we can bet buffet-style will reign supreme.

While at any other summer party it might be fine to pop your plastic utensils in a cute bag for easy grabbing, this milestone celebration deserves a bit more pomp and circumstance.

For a recent high school graduation party we hosted, a galvanized tin filled with utensils and napkins was set up for guests to easily grab. The tin added a chic flair to the set-up, but what stood out most were the DIY personalized napkin rings we made.

  • White linen napkins (repurpose and reuse!)
  • Utensils (skip the plastic to save and add sophistication)
  • Twine
  • Personalized M&Ms
  • Glue Gun

Step 1: Fold your linen napkin in half, then roll up like a diploma.

Step 2: Hold one end of your twine with your thumb, then with your other hand wrap it around the napkin's center in a cross motion - go top left, to bottom right, then bottom left to top right. Or simply wrap around!

Step 3: Once you've reached your desired thickness, gently tie off the twine - you want it to be secure but not too tight that guests cannot remove when they sit to eat.

Step 4: Attach your personalized M&Ms with your glue gun - they hold up exceptionally well with the hot glue. We used our graduate's color scheme to decorate along with the phrase "Congrats Grad" but you can customize with whatever phrase you'd like!

Step 5: Once your M&Ms have set, slip your knife and fork into the DIY napkin ring. Display in a cluster for guests to grab!
