Rose-Colored Glass: DIY Rose Petal Ice Cubes

It's not always a bad thing to look at life through rose-colored glasses. For Valentine's Day, I'm holding on to the spirit of optimism, and incorporating rose petals into something you may not expect – champagne!

There's nothing more romantic than getting roses on Valentine's Day. And as beautiful as they are in their vase and sitting on a table or counter top, you can use rose petals for a variety of crafts and DIYs. Taking one rose from the bouquet and using it for petals is a great way to get the most use out of our arrangement. I love spreading out rose petals on tabletops for a touch of romantic decor, and even adding them to cocktails in the form of rose ice!

Adding rose petals to ice cubes is as easy as it sounds. For a more delicate and elegant look, I used round ice balls to freeze pink rose petals in. Once the ice was frozen, I set the balls in champagne coupes filled with sparkling wine, and garnished the tray with other stray rose petals. It added such a lovely, elegant touch to my Valentine's Day tablescape, and couldn't have been easier to make.

Although I added my rose ice to prosecco, you could use any clear or light-colored cocktail you'd like, to really show off the rose petals. Be sure to serve in clear glassware too!

  • Large ice cube tray, or ice balls
  • Rose Petals
  • Champagne coupes, DOF glasses, or other clear glassware
  • Sparkling wine, or clear cocktail of your choice
  • Time and Patience (wait for the ice to freeze)

Take a single rose, and gently remove the petals. Be sure to find roses that are still vibrant in color and smooth in texture.

Add some water to your ice cube tray, about 1/3 full. Add the petals, then top with more water until filled. Place in freezer until completely frozen.

Once the ice is frozen, remove your cubes, and set in your favorite cocktail and glass. Display alongside loose rose petals, and watch your guests be amazed.
