Burlap

Side Profile Photo (sized to fit on stocking)

Adhesive Stencil Paper

Exacto Knife or Multi-Purpose Heating Tool

Cardstock

Black Acrylic Paint

Sewing Machine & Supplies

White Ric Rac

Directions

Step 1: Draw a stocking shape onto burlap and cut through 2 layers, so you end up with 2 stocking shapes. I used an existing stocking as a template for my shape.

Step 2: Take a photo of your subject’s side profile and print it out, sized to fit on your stocking. You could also turn an existing photo into a Silhouette via Photoshop if you are computer savvy (Google Photoshop silhouettes).

Step 3: Place adhesive stencil paper over the silhouette photo and trace with an X-acto knife or multi-purpose heating tool.

Step 4: Peel the backing off of the adhesive stencil and place on one of the burlap stocking shapes. Using a foam brush, dab several coats of black acrylic paint within the stencil. Make sure to place a piece of cardstock behind the burlap, as paint will seep through. Move the burlap stocking off of the cardstock before it dries so it doesn’t stick to the paper.

Step 5: Allow to completely dry before peeling off adhesive stencil.

Step 6: Sew top hems onto the 2 pieces of burlap stockings.

Step 7: Cut a 1 x 4 inch piece of burlap and sew into the back piece of burlap stocking as a loop. I recommend sewing over this piece several times to make it stronger.

Step 8: Sew a piece of white ric rac across the top of the painted silhouette stocking piece.

Step 9: Pin the front of the silhouette burlap stocking piece to the back of the burlap stocking piece, wrong sides out. Sew together. Because burlap likes to unravel, I recommend allowing for a greater seam allowance and going over the stitch 2-3 times for added strength.

Step 10: Hang and fill your stocking full of goodies!
