Dying Father Writes Daughter 800 Inspirational Napkin Notes

Is someone cutting up a bunch of onions around here, or is it just us?

Garth Callaghan made a promise to his daughter Emma that he would write her a sweet, inspirational note and put in her lunch every day until she graduates high school. It's a beloved tradition Garth has enjoyed doing since she first started school, and something he wants to continue to do -- even though he was diagnosed with cancer three times in two years.

Doctors have only given the father an 8% chance to live for five more years, but he's committed to writing these beautiful notes to his daughter. So Garth is planning on writing 826 total in advance: One for every day of school Emma has left between now and her high school graduation.

He's already written 740. The proud dad has documented his journey on his blog, napkinnotesdad.com, and through his Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Garth reminds us that words are powerful, and gestures of love -- no matter how big or small -- have a major impact. He inspires us to make the most of every day, to take time to stop and reflect on what's important, and spread the love with those closest to us. Emma is luck to have such an inspirational, loving and creative dad. We just hope we can be half as compassionate as he is.
