Earth Day At Home

Earth Day is a spring holiday - so take advantage of the spring weather, get outside and celebrate!

From planting trees to cleaning up the local park in time for summer, to hitting the local farmer's market for dinner ingredients, if you can get out in the air, do it.

That being said, if you are stuck at home on Earth Day (we know Mother Nature can be a bit unpredictable), there are still plenty of things you can do to help out the environment, starting with your own home.

Earth Day At-Home Check-Up

April means "spring cleaning" to many families, so while you go about your annual cleanfest, you might as well take some steps to make your home eco-friendly, too!

Take action at home by:

Insulating your home
Replacing your incandescent light bulbs with Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs
Sweeping outside instead of hosing it down
Learning how to plan a tree
Fixing your leaky toilet (leaky toilets waste 200 gallons of water a day)
Buying permanent items instead of disposables
Cleaning out juice bottles and use them for water
Recycling your electronics
Buying recycled products
Handling toxics properly (make sure hazards like paints, cleaners, and batteries are disposed of properly)

Plant The Future

Plant a tree or flower in your garden or backyard to really give back to Mother Nature! You may not see the results immediately, but as your bud starts to blossom, you and your kids will learn the true meaning of nature.

If you aren't lucky enough to have a yard, try starting a window garden. If you're a big fresh herb user, try growing your own. You can purchase small pots and grow herbs like oregano, basil, chives or parsley easily in your window!
