Easy DIY Dino Hat for Kids

In preparation for winter, turn a plain knit hat into a dinosaur hat and earn major cool points with your kiddo.

If you can sew a straight line, you can make this hat. A sewing machine isn’t even necessary if you don’t already have one. I even included a spike template for you to use, just download and print it out.

Make up a batch of DIY dino hats for your next dinosaur themed party!

Supplies:

Knit or Fleece Hat

Felt

Spike Template

Scissors

Iron

Sewing Machine or Needle/Thread

No Sew Fabric Glue

Directions:

Step 1: Print and cut out the dinosaur spike template. Trace onto felt approximately 6 times. You will need enough spikes to cover the length of the hat.

Step 2: Cut out the felt spikes, making sure that you cut out the trace markings.

Step 3: Fold felt spikes in half and iron a crease down the middle.

Step 4: Open back up the spikes and pin them along the length of the hat, pinning right in the middle of the crease.

Step 5: Sew the spikes onto the hat using a sewing machine or needle and thread.

Step 6: Fold the spikes in half at the crease, using no-sew fabric glue to attach them together. You can also sew around the spikes if you prefer. If you do use glue, make sure to test it out on a piece of felt to make sure it will hold. I found that certain no-sew glues adhere to felt better than others.

Step 7: Place dino hat on head and proceed to RAWR and act like a dinosaur all day long!
