Easy Holiday Wreath Cupcakes Display

What's better than a beautiful Christmas wreath? One made out of cupcakes! Nothing marks the beginning of the holiday season quite like a festive green wreath on the door. (Well, that and Christmas decorations for sale in September… but let's not think about that!)

There are lots of creative wreaths out there, but I've always been partial to the traditional evergreen wreath with a big red bow.

Because I’m a dessert lover, I had to figure out a way to make one that is sweet and edible -- and voila, my Christmas cupcake wreath was born! This quick and easy creation will be done before you can say "Bah Humbug!"

Supplies
  • Cupcakes (baked from a mix or your favorite recipe)
  • White frosting
  • Green food coloring
  • Red licorice laces
  • Toothpicks
Directions

Bake your cupcakes according to the recipe. While they are in the oven, use the green food coloring to tint your frosting green until you get the desired color.

After the cupcakes have completely cooled, frost them and arrange them in a circle on a white plate or white cake stand to make the wreath. Depending on the size of the plate, you'll need 10 or 12 cupcakes to make a circle.

To make the bow, use one long red licorice strand and make a loop like you are tying your shoe. Do the same with another strand and fasten the 2 loops in the middle using a toothpick and push the toothpick down until you can’t see the top peeking out.

Rest the looped licorice on the top of your cupcake wreath, and then add 2 pieces of licorice coming down from either side as the "ribbons". You may have to play with it until you get the desired effect, but once it looks like a bow, you are finished!

You can always use a regular ribbon bow instead of a licorice bow, but I like the fact that the entire wreath is edible.

This wreath makes a great centerpiece on a holiday dessert table and your guests will be impressed. In fact, you could have a wreath making party and serve this wreath cupcake as the party treat!
