Easy Homemade Movie Night Favors

When I started to plan a movie night I knew I wanted to make Homemade Caramel Corn so that guests could get the traditional popcorn fix, but with an added sweet caramel coating.

Instead of serving the popcorn in a large bowl, or individual boxes, I placed them in small plastic bags tied with a bow. The idea was to make it easy for guests to enjoy the caramel corn as a movie-time snack or as a take-home to save it for later.

About 30 Small Plastic Bags, or Favor Bags

Place about 1/4 cup of caramel corn in each bag.  Use the twine to tie a bow around each bag.

About 30 favors

Homemade Caramel Corn

8 cups Plain Popcorn
1 cup Unsalted Butter
2 cups Brown Sugar
1/2 cup Corn Syrup
2 tablespoons Molasses
2 teaspoons Pure Vanilla Extract
1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda

Place the butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, and molasses in a medium saucepan. Attach a candy thermometer to the pan and place the pan over medium heat. Stir until the ingredients have melted and are combined. Allow the mixture to reach 240 degrees, stirring occasionally. Once the mixture reaches 240 degrees, remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla and baking soda.

Preheat the oven to 250 degrees F.

Place the plain popcorn on a large baking sheet. Pour the hot caramel on top of the popcorn. Using a spatula, carefully toss the popcorn until the caramel coats the popcorn completely. Bake the popcorn for 30 minutes.

Remove the popcorn from the oven and allow it to cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, break up the popcorn into large pieces.
