Enjoying a Day Trip to DC for Cupcakes and Cherry Blossoms

This day trip to DC was filled with beautiful cherry blossoms and delicious cupcakes!

Living in New York affords me many opportunities that go beyond enjoying fantastic pizza. It’s centrally located amidst many other big and happening cities in the northeast.

Washington, DC is home to about 2,000 cherry blossom trees gifted by Japan in 1912. They bloom for a very short period of time in the spring making them a rare and beautiful treat to enjoy while it lasts. Because the blossoms are so short lived, they are truly an appreciated sight that many people travel from far away to see for themselves.

One of my closest friends and I decided to check out DC and it’s National Cherry Blossom Festival. With her upcoming nuptials in a few weeks, she snuck away for the day to see the blossoms and spend some quality time with her coolest friend ever, me of course.

This year, the flowers bloomed a little earlier than usual due to the strange weather that’s been happening in the northeast. Many of the flowers had fell off which was so unfortunate. However, the trees that still had flowers blooming were even more spectacular to see.

With the perfect shade of pink, the cherry blossoms truly are one of my most favorite flowers. Maybe it’s because they bloom temporarily or they really are just gorgeous, either way they are something to appreciate because of their short lives.

Once we had our fill of the cherry blossoms, I thought of the 2nd most important thing we had to do while in DC. No, it wasn’t to go to the Smithsonian. Or see some of the monuments. Or even check out the buildings. We had to go to Georgetown Cupcakes!

After waiting 30 minutes in line to get in, we realized they are filming their 3rd season for their show on cable TV. My friend and I were both sure that was the moment we’d be discovered by TV producers and be given our very own state-hopping-cupcake-tasting- reality-show. Regretfully so, we were not discovered.

However, I did discover some of the most amazing cupcakes I’ve ever had. Worth the wait in line even though I’m not a new reality star!

Overall, it was a super fun day in a new city that was just a few hours’ drive and train ride away. When venturing out of your own comfort zone and city, you’re bound to discover great things about a new place. In the coming months, I hope to explore some of the other surrounding big cities in the northeast with my friends. Next up: Boston!
