Faux Fur 1st Christmas Stocking Idea

How do you plan to celebrate baby's first Christmas? While everyone will make sure baby has a first ornament, oftentimes the all important stocking will go overlooked.

Any kid will tell you - stockings are one of the best parts of Christmas mornings, so don't settle for just any look. We love the idea of crafting a plush stocking made out of super soft faux fur!

A plain white polar bear style fur is cozy and classic – but if you’ve got a wild child, try leopard print! A perfect gift for any little one -- or a big person who loves cuddly stuff.

Supplies
  • Half yard faux fur
  • Half yard satin fabric for lining
  • Thread
  • Ribbon, 8 inches
  • Newspaper for pattern
  • Marker
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Sewing Machine
  • Pins
  • Iron
  • Needle
Directions

Step 1: Create your pattern. Lay out your newspaper –- one page of a standard paper (not unfolded) should be enough. Draw a stocking shape on the paper using a marker. Freehand is fine, or use another stocking or boot as a template. Once you have a shape and size you like, cut out.

Step 2: Fold your fur fabric in half, wrong side out, and lay your newspaper pattern on top. Pin the pattern to the fabric and cut out. You will have two stocking halves. Repeat for the lining fabric the same way, but extend the top by two inches. Cut out so that you have two lining halves, both two inches longer than your exterior fabric at the top, where the stocking opening will be.

Step 3: Place the right sides of the fur fabric together so that the edges line up and pin. Sew along the edge, leaving the top open. Repeat for the lining fabric. Turn the fur portion inside out and set aside.

Step 4: Create a small hem at the opening of the lining fabric, folding outwards so that the raw edge is on the outside. Press, pin and sew. Fold again, making a larger hem so that the lining fabric will be the same size as your fur stocking. Tuck the lining fabric inside the fur stocking and pin along the edge, making sure they line up.

Step 5: Place the stocking on a flat surface in front of you so that the toe is facing to the right. Fold your ribbon in half to make a hanging loop. Tuck the raw edges in between the lining and fur fabric on the back edge and pin in place. Using your needle and thread, sew along the top edge of the stocking to attach the lining to the fur portion, making sure the catch and reinforce the ribbon with a few extra stiches.  Trim your thread, fluff up your fur, and you’re done!
