Give Cork Coasters a Makeover for Spring Entertaining

Spring is on its way, which means we're gearing up for the season that brings with it lots of outdoor entertaining, casual cocktail parties and plenty of brunch celebrations spent in the sunshine.

While spring harkens a season of more casual and informal entertaining compared to the holiday filled winter, it's no reason to slack on your hosting duties. Since lots of spring get togethers, and summer ones, involve pretty and fun cocktails, you can never have enough coasters, right? But of course, finding coasters to fit with the theme of your party can be costly and near impossible, unless you make them yourself.

Using simple cork board coasters I found at my local thrift store (you can also find them at the craft stores - 4 for $1 at some we've seen!), I turned boring squares into fabulous bases worthy of the festive cocktails I plan to rest atop them in the spring.

I used pre-cut square coasters, as that was what they had when I went searching, but with a little time and the right tools, you can also buy sheets of cork that will allow you to create several matching sets of coasters at a very low cost.

4 Cork Coasters

1 Bottle of Spray Paint

1 Foam Brush

1 Pot of Crafting Paint

1 Stamp kit

Step 1: Lay your coasters on a sheet of crafting paper and spray paint them with your desired background color. Then allow them to dry for 20-30 minutes until they are dry to the touch.

Step 2: Once dry, use your foam brush to paint the surface of the stamp you wish to embellish your coasters with and then stamp it on to the top of each coaster.

Step 3: Allow the coasters to dry, usually 1-2 hours, before storing them for use.

Step 4: If desired, you can also paint a layer of Mod Podge over the coasters to seal the paint and give the coasters a more finished look, however, it's not required!
