Green Play Dough St. Patricks Day Favor for Kids

This St. Patrick’s Day play dough recipe will keep your little leprechauns occupied for hours! Not only will they have tons of fun playing with the play dough, your kids can actually help you make a batch of play dough in the kitchen as well.

I added some green food coloring to my favorite play dough recipe for a festive St. Patrick's Day touch, but you can also make a batch using all the colors of the rainbow to offer the kids more to get creative with - and rainbows are just as appropriate on St. Patrick's Day, right?

The cream of tartar ingredient will keep this play dough fresh for a good 6 months, so don’t omit it. You can find it in the spice section of your grocery store. Place the play dough in 1 ounce plastic containers and hand out as party favors for the kids at your St. Patrick’s Day gathering.

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups salt
  • 6 teaspoons Cream of Tartar
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cups water
  • Green Food Coloring (30 drops)
  • Large Pot
  • Mixing Spoon
  • Parchment Paper
  • Plastic Containers

Step 1: Place flour, salt, cream of tartar, vegetable oil, water, and 30 drops of food coloring in a large pot.

Step 2: Place the pot over medium heat on the stove and continuously mix the ingredients. The ingredients will start to form a large ball and become less watery.

Step 3: Remove the ingredients from the stove and spoon onto a piece of parchment paper. Allow to cool.

Step 4: Once cool enough to touch, knead the ingredients until it feels like the consistency of play dough.

Step 5: Press a small amount of play dough into 1 ounce plastic containers for party favors or gifts.
