Spooky Movies & Music Drinking Games

Gather your guests together for a grown-up Halloween party game that tests the limits of your horror movie and spooky tune knowledge – the more scary movies or tunes you know, the better you’ll do!

All you need is a beverage of choice (beer is recommended), a group of friends and the below games!

Horror Movie First and Last Drinking Game

Break the ice at your grown up Halloween party with this creepy drinking game – think fast, or drink! This first game will test your horror movie know-how. Here are the rules to play:

The host starts with the movie title Halloween.

The title passes to the player to his left, who must think of a horror movie title that starts with the last letter of the title given, in this case, N. The player must “think while he drinks” until he thinks of one.

Once he does, let’s say, Nosferatu, the next player must think while she drinks until coming up with a horror movie starting with the letter U. Players have up to three minutes to think of a title, or they’re out.

Game Tips

One way to do “think while you drink” is to give each player one or two ounces of beer when it’s his turn. After one minute, serve another ounce or two. As the game progresses, it will take longer to come up with titles.

Have a moderator to time the turns and to decide, using an online movie database if necessary, whether questionable titles qualify as horror movies.

Name That Spooky Tune

This Halloween party game is similar to “Name That Tune,” but in this version all of the tunes have a creepy theme, from movie songs to old pop hits. Can you guess “Monster Mash” in one note? How about the theme from Halloween? Test your song ID skills in the spookiest way possible with this Halloween party game.

"Name that Spooky Tune" requires preparation. Create a playlist of MP3s with a Halloween or horror theme.

Songs from A Nightmare Before Christmas
“Monster Mash” by Bobby “Boris” Pickett
The theme from Psycho
“Witch Doctor” by David Saville
The theme from “The Munsters”
“Phantom of the Opera”
“Thriller” by Michael Jackson
“Doin’ the Zombie” by Chubby Checker
The theme from Halloween
The theme from Ghostbusters
The theme from The Exorcist
“I Put a Spell on You” by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins

When it’s time to play, queue up a song and play just the first note or two, then pause it. The first player(s) to guess the song win a point. Once the song is identified, play the whole song, then start the guessing game at the beginning of the next song. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins a prize.
