Music Monday: The Ultimate Halloween Party Playlist

Turning your home into a haunted house filled with creepy cocktails and spooky snacks is a great start to throwing the ultimate Halloween party, but any seasoned party hostess knows the key to keeping the party going on and on is with an amazing playlist that’s on theme and full of rockin’ hits to keep the energy flowing.

This Halloween, pump up the volume and blast the ultimate Halloween party playlists for your ghouls and goblins to keep the party hopping and the boogie going. We’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite fun and festive songs that you MUST play at your Halloween bash. Some of these are golden oldies, while others are more modern and hip, making for the perfect mix of pop, punk, and nostalgia.

While this is just a start, we hope this list will help make your Halloween party one for the history books! If you’re too much of a rush to put together the perfect playlist keep this mind: if you’re hosting a scary themed party, pump up the volume and play your favorite Tom Waits album; likewise, if your party is more of a kid-friendly bash than a scary soiree, pop in the soundtrack to your favorite family-friendly Halloween movie.

Steve Miller Band 'Abracadabra'

Start your playlist off with an upbeat but subtle song like Steve Miller’s" Abracadabra". While this song may not make guests want to rip their masks off and boogie, it sure will set the scene for a magical Halloween party.

The Eagles 'Witchy Woman'

Keep building up the energy with a festive tune brimming with mysticism with "Witchy Woman" by the Eagles.

Will Smith & DJ Jazzy Jeff 'A Nightmare on my Street'

The Fresh Prince may live lavishly in Bel Air, but even his slamming beats are no match for Freddy Kruger! "A Nightmare on My Street" is a hilariously festive jam will have guests bopping their head and wishing they had moves like Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff.

Voltaire 'The Vampire Club'

Before Fangtasia was the most popular vampire club around, Voltaire had the 411 on the underground vampire clubs. Told through the story of Boris the Vampire, "The Vampire Club" is sure to add some fanged fun to your evening.

Residents of Halloweentown 'This is Halloween'

This creepy and fun tune from Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas is such a beautifully creepy ballad and the perfect addition to your party playlist. While I prefer the original version sung by the residents of Halloweentown, Marilyn Manson and Panic! At the Disco did covers of this spooky song that are definitely worth checking out. In fact, they are all unique enough you should just add all three versions to your playlist!

Stevie Wonder 'Superstition'

While there have been countless numbers of covers done for this perfect Halloween melody, I still prefer the Stevie Wonder version of "Superstition" to all the rest. Play this when you want your ghoulish guests to put down the creepy finger foods and boogie on down to the dance floor.

Oingo Boingo 'Dead Man's Party'

October 31st brings all the ghouls, goblins, zombies, and skeletons out to play, so "Dead Man’s Party" by Oingo Boingo is so perfectly fitting for your Halloween party playlist. The accompanying music video is so hilariously creepy you’ll want to project it as well.

Dead Man's Bones 'My Body's a Zombie for You'

When Ryan Gosling makes music, we listen - especially when that music is an album full of love songs written to ghosts and zombies. If you haven’t heard the handsome duo of Dead Man's Bones featuring back up from the Silverlake Conservatory Children's Choir, your Halloween party is the perfect chance to check out their musical stylings. While you can certainly play the whole album for a night of bone-chilling jams, my personal favorite is "My Body's a Zombie for You".

Michael Jackson 'Thriller'

Don’t act like you weren’t expecting Michael Jackson’s greatest Halloween hit to make it to our party playlist. The music video is just as good as the song, so why not take it up a notch and project it on that fancy entertainment system you rarely use so guests can join in and get down?!

Screamin' Jay Hawkins, 'I Put a Spell on You'

Whether you prefer this magical ballad performed by the ultimate witch Winifred Sanderson aka Bette Midler, or the original version by Screamin' Jay Hawkins, there’s no denying that that song will get your guests in the Halloween mood.

Bobby Pickett 'Monster Mash'

He did the mash! This family friendly tune is a must at any Halloween party as guests of all ages will enjoy this classic Halloween song. Be sure to check out our Monster Mash party ideas if you’re planning for a night full of monster fun!

Ray Parker Jr. 'Ghost Busters'

Another must-play classic, the Ghost Busters theme song won’t soon be leaving our Halloween party playlist because, well, it’s just too perfect!

Brick & Mortar 'Locked in a Cage'

Monsters have feelings, too! This psychedelic indie jam from Brick & Mortar may have not been written with Halloween in mind, but the lyrics are exactly how any monster would feel if they were “Locked in a Cage”. Plus, the energy of this song is sure to get your guests and ghouls shaking on the dance floor.

Dead Kennedys 'Halloween'

Any song that starts with “So it’s Halloween, and you feel like dancing, and you feel like shouting.. “ is a MUST for the ultimate Halloween Party. The Dead Kennedy’s punk-fueled jam titled "Halloween" is sure to have your guests jamming along to this spooky song.

Rocky Horror Picture Show 'Time Warp'

Your guests will drop whatever they are doing and get in on the Halloween fun as soon as Rocky Horror's "Time Warp" starts to play! Play this tune when the energy is dying down to revive the Halloween fever!
