Handmade Holiday Soap

I love holiday soaps - as a child they would be my go-to present for family members and I would delight in the chance to go to the Christmas Bazaars and pick out hand made soaps.

Soap making the traditional way is a complicated skill that few can master, but the there are short cuts you can take to deliver a handmade soap without having to work out all the steps. For these soaps, I opted for pre-batched cream soap, coloring and essence; if you can make a batch of instant pudding, you can make these soaps.

  • Pre-batched soap (either glycerin or cream)
  • Essential Oils or Extracts to add aroma
  • Coloring (optional)
  • Grater
  • Soap Molds
  • Soap stamps

Step 1: Grate the pre-batched soap so that it is long and stringy, then heat it up according to the directions on the packet.

Step 2: Once melted, add a splash of coloring until you have the color you are looking for. Then, if you are looking for an aromatic soap, add a splash of essence if you are looking for an aromatic soap.

Step 3: Pour the melted soap into the soap molds and allow it to harden in the fridge for 10 minutes, and then remove from the fridge and gently stamp the soap while it is soft, but not yet hard or runny.

Step 4: Return to the fridge to cool and harden before wrapping.
