Healthy Pasta Recipes to Celebrate National Pasta Month

October is National Pasta Month! Now you could take this opportunity to go on carb overload, which I've done on numerous occasions, but we came up with some healthy ways for you to enjoy the holiday without ruining your waistline.


We learned recently just how good pasta is for you. According to The National Pasta Association, pasta is only 100 calories per serving (1/2 a cup) and it's a great way to boost energy and satisfy hunger. Half a cup may not seem like a lot, but load it with fresh veggies and protein and you'll have the perfect diet-friendly meal.

Here are a few skinny pasta dishes that will help you celebrate National Pasta Month:

Pine-Nut-Pasta-Recipe

Fresh Tomato and Pine Nut Pasta

This pasta dish is colorful, light and refreshing. Instead of being topped with a heavy sauce or cheese, drizzle a little extra virgin olive oil on top and season it with minced garlic, basil, salt and pepper. It's the perfect way to fill you up, without the added calories!

Skinny Chicken and Broccoli Alfredo

For those of your who still prefer your pasta creamy, you don't have to sacrifice good taste to eat healthy. This alfredo recipe is made with plain FAGE Total yogurt, low sodium chicken broth, flour and garlic for a low calorie sauce that's just as creamy as your typical high fat alfredo. Top with broccoli and chicken for added vitamins and protein for a well balanced meal.

Just the name alone makes my mouth water, but the best part is how healthy this mac and cheese recipe actually is. Made with almond milk, avocado, lime juice, cilantro and low fat cheese, it's a dish I don't mind celebrating with a few times this month!
