Feel-Good Friday: Heartwarming Proposals That Will Have You Believing in True Love

Professing your eternal love for someone and asking him or her to commit to a lifetime together (for better or for worse) is kind of a big deal. It’s such a grand gesture, in fact, that some people have gone above and beyond the standard get-down-on-one-knee-and-pop-the-question bit.

There are some extraordinary proposal stories that not only warm our hearts, but make us believe in true, everlasting love. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite engagement stories, from the big, creative spectacles to the truly personal and intimate moments. So grab the tissues – our list of best proposals will have you crying tears of joy along with these happy couples.

Isaac Lamb’s Epic Lip Dub Proposal

Portland-based actor Isaac Lamb gathered the help of 60 friends, family and members of the community for one of the most elaborate and well-planned proposals we’ve ever seen. He had his then-girlfriend Amy Frankel sit on the back of an open Honda CRV and watch the magic unfold. The lip synching segments to Bruno Mars’ “Marry You” are so perfect, you have to watch the video for yourself.

Ed’s Pug-Perfect Puppy Proposal

When Alex Justins took a trip to New York City with her boyfriend Ed Grant, she had no idea how much the vacation would change her life. During a romantic stroll in iconic Central Park, Ed popped the big question with the help of 16 pugs from New York’s Pug Meet Up. The wrinkly pups came armed with heart-shaped balloons and boatloads of goofy cuteness. “I have never seen Alex happier than when she sees a pug so I thought I would make her super happy,” he told the Today show. “And then I hoped (to make her) even happier by proposing to her!”  Who can say no to that?

Ashley and Tom's 'Rocky Horror' Engagement Show

Celebrations' own Ashley Post got the surprise of a lifetime on Halloween night when her longtime boyfriend (and Rocky Horror Picture Show co-director) Tom Amici made the performance a night she’ll never forget. She says:

Halloween night brought the biggest and best surprise that I could ever hope for. My now fiancée, who is also my best friend, favorite person in the world, fellow movie and theme park enthusiast, the list goes on, proposed to me in front of an audience of hundreds and our cast at the midnight Halloween performance of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. My now fiancée and I also happen to be the Director and Co-Director of the New York City Rocky Horror Picture Show cast, the place where we first met and have grown together over the years, so it was perfect, to say the least, that he asked me to marry him in the theater where we met, among the cast and tradition that we love and brought us together.

The proposal brought the audience to a standing ovation and cheers, and myself to tears and so much happiness. I was also excited that our parents already knew (and yes, my Dad whole heartedly approved when he asked permission!) I am so excited to marry my other half and to have many more wonderful years together!

We’re so happy for her! Watch the video below and try not to cry along with Ashley.

Matt Still’s Movie Trailer Proposal

Matt Still wanted to ask his girlfriend Ginny to marry him, but knew no ordinary proposal would do. So he concocted a plan that involved getting Ginny to go to the movies with her brother Charlie to see the film Fast Five. Only when the upcoming trailers rolled, that’s when Ginny realized she was about to be the star of the show – and the true magic happened.

Justin’s Music Video-Themed Proposal

Taking your girlfriend to the restaurant where you had your first date, and asking for her hand in marriage seems a little stale. So Justin decided to take that tired formula and get a little creative for his girlfriend Emily. He had the restaurant decorate the table where they had their first date (and were going to be sitting again), and set up a TV with a video for her to watch. The video showed Justin in all kinds of hilarious and sweet scenarios, including lip synching to an ‘NSYNC song, dancing to Boys II Men and asking for her dad’s hand in marriage. The video is kind of long, but totally worth it.
