Holiday Gift Basket Ideas for a Bride

When I got married I was lucky enough to have a really amazing bridal party. All of my girls were incredibly supportive, helpful and went beyond the call of bridesmaid duty.

My sister was my maid of honor and she shocked me when she turned up to my bridal shower with some very special baskets.

Since I was a little kid, celebrating has been a part of life – which means holidays in my home are a VERY big deal. My mom is the type who has plates, linens, glasses and décor for every holiday.

Knowing how important the holidays are to me and that I’d be gifted with plenty of everyday needs for my new home, my sister decided against buying off my registry and instead set up a table complete with 9 baskets. Each basket had a theme – Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day (where a big Irish family!), Easter/Spring, Summer, BBQ (for the hubs), 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving/Fall and Christmas.

Inside each basket were little items and knick-knacks I hadn’t thought to put on my registry, all tied to the holiday they celebrated. From decorative embellishments like napkin rings, kitchen mitts, salt and pepper shakers, wreaths and wine glass charms, to more seasonal essentials like corn on the cob skewers, meat thermometers, scented candles and kitchen towels, my sister thought of everything.

As a newlywed with her first place, I can’t express how much these baskets meant. At the time I received the baskets I was more focused on the cute items my sister put in, but when the holidays arrived on the heels of the wedding, I was able to bring Christmas to my home without much work or thought. A first holiday in my own home was made so much more wonderful and happy thanks to my sister.

Already I’ve been fortunate enough to carry the traditions my mom made with our family to my own. My sister made these baskets over the course of my engagement – no small or inexpensive feat, I know. Her idea though is a special one that any bride would appreciate and also one a bridal party could manage.

If you’re looking for a unique way to send your bride off into married life, consider my sister’s wonderful gift – here’s what to consider.

What holidays does your bride celebrate? Create baskets based off of those celebrations.

Alternatively, does she love to entertain? A wine basket, dinner party basket, girl’s night basket, cocktail basket or romantic evening in basket would all be good ideas, too.

Get creative. My sister used wicker baskets, but also stuffed holiday containers, ice buckets and a cooler with her gifts.

Keep it simple when wrapping. Use clear cellophane and ribbon - that's it! Everyone will want to peek in the baskets at the shower, so make sure it's easy to see.
