Homemade Scented Christmas Ornaments

These cinnamon scented Christmas ornaments are not only pretty but they smell good too. Hang them on your tree to give it a yummy scent, especially if you put up a faux tree.

There’s something about the smell of cinnamon that takes me back to Christmas as a child. Maybe it’s all of the holiday baking I did with my mom in my childhood or the way my grandmother’s house smelled on Christmas Eve. Whatever it is, I love surrounding myself with all things cinnamon during the holidays.

I recommend using thinner paper for this project so the cinnamon stick scent can be smelled. When sewing on paper, I recommend dedicating one sewing machine needle to paper.

In addition to trimming your tree with these stuffed tree ornaments, you could also hang them on a string and use as garland or use them to decorate holiday gifts. You could also try different shapes and different types of shape scissors for a different look.

Supplies:

Cardstock

Hemp or String

Pinking Shears

Pollyfill

Cinnamon Sticks

Sewing Machine

Directions:

Step 1: Fold the cardstock in half and cut out 2 identical tree-shaped triangles with pinking shears.

Step 2: Sew the 2 triangles together with a basic stitch, making sure the printed sides are on the outside. Sew a piece of jute or string on the inside of the triangle as a hanger. Leave the bottom unsewn.

Step 3: Stuff the tree with pollyfill and a cinnamon stick through the open end of the ornament. Once full, sew that portion shut.

Step 4: Repeat until you've made enough scented ornaments to deck your halls and trim your tree! Hang about and enjoy the scent of the season.

These aromatic ornaments make for a pretty perfect party favor at your holiday soiree, too!
