How to Dress Up Your Cupcakes for a Girls Night Party

A cupcake on its own is divine, but a cupcake with a little extra dressing makes it all the sweeter! And as any hostess know, it's all about the tiny details! So dress up your sweet treats with with a little glitz and glamour for a truly jaw dropping effect.

Here are a few tricks to make your cupcakes look a little more glamorous for your girls’ night out party.

Mix and match

Tape or glue dots

Jewel-encrusted buckles

Gemstones/Cabochons (large)

Pearl adhesive strips

Rhinestone adhesive strips

Edible cupcake toppers (such as truffles, bon bons, gumballs, and small sugar cookies)

Cupcake wrappers work great to dress up your treats, but for something more elegant (and sparkly!), start by taping a piece of ribbon around the base of the cupcake wrapper.

Make sure you adhere the ribbon in what will be the back of the cupcake, and use glue dots if you prefer the seam not to be seen. If your decoration or gemstone is large enough, you can put the seam in the front and cover it with the detail piece so that the seam totally disappears.

You can then add buckles, gemstones, pearls—the options are pretty much endless, and only limited to what you may be able to find at the store or around your house. For these cupcakes, I took large round and oval cabochons and used glue dots to adhere them to the ribbon on the front of the cupcake.

They also make rhinestones in strips with adhesive backs that would work great as cupcake décor. Measure the circumference of your cupcake and cut an appropriate length of rhinestone. Then unpeel the rhinestones from the backing and stick them around the cupcake in a strip (like you did the ribbon) for instant easy glam. You can find these rhinestone strips at most craft stores in the scrapbooking or bridal sections.

Don’t forget the tops of your cupcakes! A large edible decoration, like a truffle, was perfect for the tops of these cupcakes. You could also use large gumballs, Hershey kisses, small sugar cookies, or other large pieces of candy.
