Tips for Hosting a Glam Awards Night Bash

Hosting an Awards Night Bash is the perfect excuse to add a bit of glitz and glam to your weekend! For those who typically host more casual and laid-back parties like myself, it is so much fun to shake things up once in a while and encourage friends and family to join in the exciting festivities.

Follow these simple steps to create your own award-winning bash at home:

Give guests something to look forward to by sending out electronic or paper invitations in advance of your party.

Set the scene the moment guests arrive by creating a red carpet entrance! Most party supply stores sell inexpensive “red carpets” this time of year and while you’re there, you can pick up gold balloons to tape to the side of the red carpet as “lights” from the paparazzi’s photography flashes.

Create name tags for each appetizer based on the names of the nominated movies. For example, last year’s movie nominations had me serving “Argo-Choke Dip,” “Silver Lining Sliders” and “Life of Pi-zza Dip.” Let yourself get creative (and silly!) here… after all, it is supposed to be fun, right? Alternatively, you can create your own chalkboard serving tray and simply write in the names of your food using chalk..simple and sophisticated!

Nothing screams “fancy festivities” more than a bit of bubbly! Set up a bubbly bar and encourage guests to help themselves. Display sparkling water, pitchers of various juices, bottles of Champagne or Cava, and (for an added twist of fun) a few miniature individual-sized bottles of Prosecco. Not only dos this allow guests to be their own mixologist, but this also frees you up from having to refill glasses all night!

Adorn champagne glasses on the bubbly bar with gilded swizzle sticks for a touch of glam! Simply cut small pieces off a gold tinsel garland (found at party supply stores) and use a hot glue gun to secure the mini pom-pom to the top of a skewer. Some packs of gold garland may have a wire running through them; cut off a small piece of garland and tightly wrap wire around the top of the wooden skewer. Place one festive swizzle stick in each champagne glass.

Set up a movie theatre inspired dessert tray to really add some sweeteness to the festivities! We served dessert style popcorn paired with traditional theatre sized candies to take guests out of the living room and into the theatre.

Foster some friendly competition and have guests cast their votes for who will win each category. Once nominations are announced, there will be plenty of websites in which you can download “ballots.” Scatter these ballots around the room, especially near the popcorn or candy so guests are reminded to complete their ballot prior to the start of the show!
