How to Make Crepe Paper Chandelier Party Streamers

If you’re not a fan of the mass produced birthday party supplies out there that come with a great price tag, but aren’t unique enough to suit your custom tastes, consider taking the DIY route with your birthday party decorations.

Ruffled streamers are super popular right now and make for inexpensive, yet gorgeous birthday party decorations no matter how old the guest-of-honor is going to be!

To craft these DIY birthday decorations is simple - just ruffle up some streamers using a sewing machine and then turn them into fun chandeliers with a hoop base. You can mix and match your streamer colors to fit your birthday party’s theme. I made a few orange and blue ruffle streamer chandeliers for my son's goldfish birthday party and hung them in our party tent. These pink and white ones are for a shabby chic cowgirl party and will most likely greet guests at the entrance as they arrive. The color and theme possibilities are endless!

And if you prefer not to go with a chandelier shape, these sewn streamer ribbons look just as pretty when strung around the room or on the ceiling!

Pink Crepe Paper

Tape or Craft Glue

Jute or String

Step 1: Set your sewing machine to the longest possible stitch and change your tension to the strongest tension possible. Overlap the pink and white streamers (or colors of your choice) in the middle and feed them together through your sewing machine.

They will ruffle as you go. A trick of mine is to insert a dowel or stick in the middle of the 2 crepe paper streamers for easy holding.

Step 2: Take the 14-inch embroidery hoop apart and put aside the piece with the hardware. Tie your jute or string on the other piece, forming an X.

Step 3: Cut ruffled streamers into approximately 12-inch strips and attach around the embroidery hoop using craft glue or tape.

Step 4: Tie a piece of jute or string from the center X of the hoop and hang. Simple as that and makes for a very pretty, custom birthday decoration!
