How to Make the Perfect Birthday Cake

You can never go wrong when a cake is baked with love, from scratch, with the best ingredients. Here are some tips that may help if you're planning to make a birthday cake soon and you're not sure how to get that professional baker look. Step-by-Step To Make the Perfect Birthday Cake

 

Step 1: Start with three level cakes, about 3 inches thick. You can get a more even flat top by banging your pans filled with your cake batter on the counter a few times, but it still won't be perfect. So, once your cakes bake and cool off, use a serated knife to cut of the dome top.

 

 

Step 2: Next, secure your bottom layer to the cake stand you'll display the cake on with a small dab of frosting. This will prevent the cake from sliding about.

Then, using an uneven spatula, spread a thin layer of frosting on the top of the layer. Top that with a thick ring around the outer edge of your cake layer and work it inwards using a pastry bag. This will give you a nice, even filling. Top with your next cake layer.

 

Step 3: Repeat this process for the second layer and top with your final layer.

 

 

Step 4: Once your final layer is secure, use your uneven spatula to even out any filling that's overflowed. Then, using your piping bag pipe out a hefty layer of frosting onto the top of your cake as well as to pipe a thick layer around the edges.

Use your spatula to spread the frosting around in one direction until even. Pop your cake into the fridge for an hour. Your crumb coat is done!

 

Step 5: Finally, once your cake has set, remove it from the fridge and repeat Step 4 to achieve a completely even look.

 

Step 6: Decorate however you'd like!
