How to Plan a Bachelorette Party

Planning a bachelorette party can seem like a pretty stressful undertaking if you’re new to the game, but with some basic research and a little help from your friends, putting together the ultimate ladies night can be a breeze.

Here at Celebrations we are party pros and have thrown our fair share of bachelorette and bridal parties, but we know that lumps and bumps are inevitable on the road to event coordinating. Hopefully these tips and tricks will help to smooth the path so you and your pals can reach your celebration destination.

Decisions, Decisions

Before you go ahead and make any arrangements, whether it is for décor or a DJ, there are a few basic questions you should ask your bride-to-be and her partygoers.

1. How long?

What exactly do you and your guests have in mind for your pre-matrimony adventure? One night of dancing, an entire day of female bonding, or is it a weekend getaway you and your party seek? Figure this out well in advance, so that everyone has plenty of time to request off from work, purchase their tickets or arrange for a sitter.

2. Who’s driving?

Make transportation arrangements ahead of time, especially if you plan to book a limo. Some companies will only pick up from one, single location, so you may have to decide on a common meeting place for pick-up, whether it be at someone’s home or a restaurant. If you decide against limo transport, you may want to decide on a designated driver before embarking a night of girl shenanigans. Be sure to select someone outside of the bridal party, so no one has to miss out on the night of fun.

3. How are the girls going to pay?

Asking for money up front, whether it is for limo rentals, a hotel or a spa is always the smart way to go, this way you’re not stuck footing the bill when a fellow partier drinks her wallet empty. Asking for money right away also lessens the burden of deposits that can make playing hostess a real pain.

4. What kind of budget do you have?

It is important to be realistic when planning a party of any kind, and keep things within a rigid budget. It always helps to enlist co-planners or co-hosts to lessen the financial burden of party planning, but some of the greatest parties have been put together on a next-to-nothing budget.

Start with a list of priorities, ranked from most important to least, and plan your budget accordingly. It’s okay to splurge on important details like hotels, spa packages or even transportation, while things like novelty lollipops and feather boas shouldn’t drain your bank account.

5. Does the Bride ride free?

In many cases it is custom that the guest of honor doesn’t pay for her expenses, but with the high cost of travel, hotel rooms, etc. this isn’t always an option. Before booking anything sit down with your guests and see if it is feasible to cover the bride-to-be’s costs, and if so work out a plan for splitting all expenses.

6. What does the BRIDE want?

When planning a throwing a party for someone it’s easy to get wrapped up in your own ideas and expectations. Take a minute or two to reflect on your dear old pal, and this will prevent you from being the one to turn her into a blushing bride.

Bachelorette parties are notorious for being wild and rambunctious, leaning towards the adult-only kind of fun. Not all brides feel comfortable or have any interest in this kind of entertainment, while others seem to eat it right up. Chances are if you’re throwing the party you know the bride pretty well, but in the chance that you do not, don’t be afraid to come right out and ask her what kind of party she is hoping for.

If the bride isn’t a big drinker, you might want to come up with a list of activities that aren’t centered around bars or alcohol consumption, while if this is what she does have in mind, you better make sure the wine is flowing! Just remember conservative parties, don’t have to mean boring parties—if anything they are a test of our creativity!
